Amy Friend

First off this read (via Mint) about Amy Friend's creative process in developing her Daré alla Lucé series is well worth it. Openness to 'mistakes' = a wealth of artistic value waiting to be uncovered.

A Quiet Post

“There is no 'the truth' or 'a truth.' Truth is not one thing, or even a system. It is an increasing complexity. The pattern of the carpet is a surface. When we look closely, or when we become weavers, we learn of the tiny multiple threads unseen in the overall pattern, the knots on the underside of the carpet” ~Adrienne Rich

P. H. Fitzgerald

To me Parker Fitzgerald's photography has lovely, captured sculptural essence to it. It's the light I think and the compositions, the way the forms are treated --- I come away feeling like the humans in the images (although not very diverse in actuality) are fully formed in flesh and not flattened into a photographic, contextual moment in time.

A Quiet Post

I am learning to see. I don't know why it is, but everything enters me more deeply and doesn't stop where it used to. I have an interior that I never knew of. Everything passes into it now. I don't know what happens there. ~Rainer Maria Rilke

A Quiet Post

“You have a right to experiment with your life. You will make mistakes. And they are right too. No, I think there was too rigid a pattern. You came out of an education and are supposed to know your vocation. Your vocation is fixed, and maybe ten years later you find you are not a teacher anymore or you're not a painter anymore. It may happen. It has happened. I mean Gauguin decided at a certain point he wasn't a banker anymore; he was a painter. And so he walked away from banking. I think we have a right to change course. But society is the one that keeps demanding that we fit in and not disturb things. They would like you to fit in right away so that things work now.” ~Anaïs Nin

Liz Menard

Working through "etching, aquatint, drypoint, chine colle, and hand coloring..." printmaker Liz Menard creates lovingly spare (but rich) landscapes. This first piece in particular has such a lovely depth...

Filippo Minelli

Decontextualized contextual work by Filippo Minelli (who by the way, has a fascinating artistic process; "interventions in public spaces" via an early history with artistic expression through graffiti.)

Monday Morning Movie

"Dreams are being able to stay in the flow of life..."

This woman and I seem to share a similar voice on the experience of being in one's own life, being present, yet watching life flow through --- over, under, around --- the body, mind and soul. And being observant and curious about the effects of it all, not knowing what will come next.

Delight in the mystery. Happy Monday.
